TomatoTown History

Tomato Town began in early 2008 when Farmer J found ‘The Tomato Man‘ on Craigslist selling Heirloom tomato plants for $1.50 each. She immediately ordered 21 plants, and informed Farmer T that his digging skills – honed in childhood digging holes in the backyard of his Overland Park home – would be pressed into service. Alas, many rocks were encountered.

A phone call and a week later, 10 cubic-yards of top soil were ceremoniously dumped on our driveway.

Tomato Town was born.

That first year, we had those 21 plants crowded onto our 10 x 20 foot plot. Despite the overcrowding, they did fantastic.

Flash forward four years, and we now have over 70 plants, 32 varieties, and plans to expand even further. We are starting to pick our favorites, based on taste, production and disease resistance. We also grow peppers, and will try growing some of the hottest peppers on the planet this year.
