Count – Sungold Wins! July 25, 2010

It's Raining Tomatoes!

A strong showing by our sungolds this week. Mr. Stripey is also doing well. We had several tomatoes taken out by a tomato hornworm earlier this week, but haven’t seen any further evidence of its presence. For fun, google ‘hornworm poop’ and you’ll get more information that you thought possible about this destructive little monster and what he leaves behind.

TomatoTown, by the numbers.

Any of the new varieties becoming new favorites? We’re really liking Carbon over here!

Of course, we’ve never seen a tomato we did not like. But we’ve been enjoying the Opalkas and the Carbons greatly. Apparently, we did not manage to plant our Beam’s Yellow Pear in an optimal location so it has been slower than usual. Sungold is boldly filling that gap, however.

Still awaiting the appearance of a Berkley, but the plants look healthy so far.

Keep an eye on ARGG…they will blush a little yellow on the blossom end when they are ripening. Let them FULLY ripe for best flavor.

Thanks! I was reaching for Aunt Ruby today when I remembered what you said!
