The Count – July 11, 2009

Tomato Town, by the numbers.

42 plants, planted in 15 cubic yards of topsoil.
30 tomatoes harvested as of July 11, 2009

Our Stupice plant has provided 21 tomatoes so far. We’ll be planting more of this variety next year, for sure!

Tomato plant sources:

– 34 plants purchased from our favorite ‘TomatoMan’ (see his VERY informative blog at http://kctomatotimes.wordpress.com/)
– 4 plants from a grower in Kansas City, Kan.
– 4 volunteers. These hardy souls planted themselves and became part of the Tomato Town Army without being drafted.

We’ve distributed at least 8 of our volunteers to infiltrate fruitless yards in Leawood, Merriam and North Kansas City. Reports from Lieutenant Jill in the North indicate her volunteers have grown to be five feet tall. Our goal is simple: A tomato plant in every yard. Our Lypocene Army will take over and destroy tasteless tomatoes across the metro. Hothouses will fail. Tomato sandwiches will replace hamburgers.
