Our larger tomato varieties are starting to produce well, which is a welcome change from picking the ever abundant cherry varieties. We had a great harvest on Friday, Aug. 14. My 7-year-old nephew helped by carrying the basket until it simply got too heavy for him! While he won’t eat a tomato, he loves to help harvest. I can’t blame him. I hated tomatoes as a kid, despite my grandfather telling me that ketchup shared the ingredient I wouldn’t eat. It wasn’t until Farmer J and heirloom tomatoes entered my life that I have grown to appreciate them!
