The Count – July 26, 2009 – Tomato Town organically grows heirloom tomatoes in the greater Kansas City area as well as Johnson County, Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, Shawnee, Merriam KS, Independence MO and Kansas City Missouri, KCMO. Varieties include: Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, Stupice, Carbon, Black Krim, Black Cherry, Yellow Pear, Absinthe and Aunt Ruby’s German Green.

Weeks’ summary: We had an increase of 197 over a one week period, more than doubling our previous count. The winner so far is Beam’s Yellow Pear, with my favorite, Stupice, close in second. Farmer J made a couple of salads this week, both with and without Basil, that have been enjoyed with friends. We are still experiencing some serious disease issues, and I fear that we might lose one of our Martino Roma plants. We have a plant doctor coming by later this week to give us a full diagnosis.
